We provide specialized services for shielding transformers, electrical meter panels, refrigerators, computers, motors and other sources of electromagnetic fields (EMFs). We install shielding throughout California on a regular basis, and travel to other locations upon special request.
In commercial buildings, sources such as electrical panels and transformers can generate very high EMFs near the equipment — causing troublesome electromagnetic interference (EMI) for computers and electronics, and raising concerns about human health and safety. Shielding is often the best and most cost-effective solution to reduce the EMFs for these cases. (See: Commercial Buildings)
For homes, schools and offices, we install shielding for transformers, meter panels, breaker panels, refrigerators, ovens, fans, pumps for hot tubs and Jacuzzis, and other sources. The electrical wiring itself can be shielded — especially if the wiring is readily accessible, or during a remodel, or during the installation of new wiring in new construction. Also, the cords for lamps, clocks and appliances can be shielded.
Computers and televisions can also be shielded to greatly reduce their emissions. Computers and TVs are unique, in that they emit many different kinds of EMFs — at many different frequencies. We provide testing to measure the various kinds of electromagnetic fields from computers, and recommend specific types of shielding as appropriate.
Different materials and methods are required for different shielding purposes. For example, the magnetic fields from transformers, meter panels and refrigerators require special alloys with high magnetic permeability, such as MuMetal®. In contrast, the electric fields emitted by electrical wiring and appliance cords need another type of shielding material. In all cases, the proper shape, placement and grounding of the shielding is critical, or the EMFs may actually be increased.
