The Bell 4080 ELF Gaussmeter

This is the meter we recommend for the easiest and most accurate measurement of magnetic fields from power lines, transformers, electrical meters and panels, wiring, lights, clocks, appliances, and most other electrical sources.  You simply turn the meter on, hold it wherever you wish to test, and read the number on the display.

Key Feature:  The Bell 4080 is an extremely accurate triple-axis gaussmeter.  Most meters are the single-axis type, which can measure only one direction at a time.  Thus, you must rotate the meter around manually and find the highest field direction.  If you do not do this properly, you will greatly underestimate the total field strength.  And to get a truly accurate measurement, you must position the single-axis meter in three directions and perform a math calculation on the readings to get the actual field strength.  In contrast, a triple-axis meter has three sensor coils already built in, so it will take the three measurements for you instantaneously and also do the math.  You simply hold the meter where you wish to test and read off the number on the display.  (Since most people will take much less accurate measurements with a single-axis meter, we recommend a triple-axis meter like the Bell 4080 or the TriField 100XE for most beginning users.)

Key Features...

bullet

Highly Accurate:  Accuracy within 2%.  Easy-to-read digital display.  Simply turn the meter on, and read the correct field strength.

bullet

Highly Sensitive:  Measures magnetic field levels as low as 0.1 milligauss (mG) and up to 511 mG.

bullet

Easy to Use:  With its triple-axis sensor, you can hold the meter in any direction and get a true and accurate reading.  Unlike single-axis meters, there is no need to position the meter properly or do any math calculations.

bullet

ELF Magnetic Fields:  Measures the most common magnetic fields in the environment — those within the ELF (extremely-low-frequency) range.  Special Note: Televisions, computers and fluorescent lights may also emit magnetic fields in the VLF (very-low-frequency) range.  Most gaussmeters, including the Bell 4080, can not measure in the VLF range.  To detect VLF magnetic fields, see the TriField 100XE.

bullet

Frequency Response:  Specifically: 40-600 Hz, +/-3%.  Calibrated for accuracy at 60 Hz the frequency of electrical power lines, wiring, lights and appliances in the United States and Canada.

bullet

Digital Display:  True RMS, auto ranging, portable hand held convenience, black carry case.

bullet

Battery:  Uses one standard 9 Volt battery (included).  Typical battery life is 10 hours of use.

Bell 4080 Selling Price: $300  (7-Day Rental: $65)  plus shipping.
